The following guidelines are intended for professional applicators and boatyard environments, where consistency, reliability, and long-term performance are essential.

Surface Preparation

Correct substrate preparation is fundamental to coating performance and system durability.

All surfaces must be:

• Clean, dry, and thoroughly degreased

• Free from contamination such as salt, oil, or moisture

• Abraded as specified to promote mechanical adhesion

Intercoat sanding is recommended where stated to ensure proper adhesion between layers and to optimise the performance of the complete coating system.

Application Environment

Application should be carried out in a controlled, dust-free environment to avoid surface defects and loss of finish quality.

Avoid application:

• In direct or intense sunlight

• During rainfall or misty conditions

• When substrate or ambient temperature is below 5°C

• When relative humidity exceeds 80%

Uncontrolled conditions may lead to poor flow, solvent entrapment, surface defects, or compromised curing.

Temperature & Humidity Control

Environmental conditions have a direct impact on curing and long-term coating performance.

• Anticorrosive coatings must not be applied in damp, rainy, or misty conditions, as moisture significantly reduces corrosion protection.

• Two-component epoxy and polyurethane systems require temperatures above 10°C to achieve correct chemical curing and specified performance characteristics.

Thinners, Mixing & Product Integrity

Only Skipper’s specified thinners should be used, strictly in accordance with the recommended ratios.

Do not:

• Substitute thinners from other manufacturers

• Add unapproved additives or modifiers

Products must be:

• Thoroughly stirred prior to application to ensure uniform pigmentation

• Kept in sealed containers when not in use

This ensures consistency, performance reliability, and compliance with technical specifications.

Recoating & Pot Life Management

• Observe all recommended recoat intervals, adjusting for ambient temperature and conditions

• For two-component systems, allow the specified induction time after mixing components (A + B) before application

• Apply mixed material strictly within the stated pot life

Once pot life is exceeded, the product must not be used, as performance characteristics are no longer guaranteed.

All application equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with suitable solvents.
